Chock Full of Vitamin S

I may have taken a break from posting, but I have not taken a break from that delicious red stuff (well...I did have an accidental break but more on that later).

I have been wanting to add a kick to liquids for quite some time but never figured out what would be a good mix.  I was sure it was either going to be a waste of Sriracha or a waste of beer (cause...beer).  Inspiration struck during breakfast to add it to orange juice and I was amazed.

Instead of a spice on the tongue, the OJ pulled the flavor to the throat, making my favorite type of spice!  Move over lemon-ginger-echinacea!  Step aside hot toddie (but not too far cause you might be next).  There is a new cold and flu drink in town.  It almost makes me excited to get sick again!

This gets a full "WOO" out of "WOO" and will be on my list of things I go out of my way to make.

And now for something completely different.

Yup, that's a banana there.  Organic, perfectly ripened, and just begging for a kick.  Sweet plus spicy, it's actually not too bad.  The flavors didn't meld as good as I had hoped, but I thought if I'm going to make a blog about putting Sriracha on strange things, I better get to putting it on strange things.  So there you go.

4/7 yum points.  I'd do it again, but I don't see myself craving it any time in the future.

Food of the gods...

Under the streaks of red lies a layer of toasted Panko, and under that rests the most delicious concoction ever known: Alton Brown's Stovetop Mac and Cheese.  To say that this is one of my favorites is an understatement, and that was even before my discovery of the rooster sauce.  That being said, Sriracha takes this to a whole new level that has resulted in my mind being convinced this is the way it was always mean to be.

Soft gooey yet sharp cheese, toasty crunch, and spice.  The only thing that makes it better is when it is re-heated the next day (with fresh applications of Panko and Sriracha of course).

I give this 10/10 somethings (still trying to figure out a unit for this rating).  Damnit...now I'm hungry.

A suitable substitute for salt

I swear there is some toast under there...I'm still getting used to taking photos without using $10,000 worth of equipment...but I digress.  Sriracha + egg is a pretty typical equation, so no one should be surprised...I just wanted to get in the habit of making regular short posts on this.  I think the only twist I can put on this is that I am trying to cut my salt intake, so for some reason I have decided to put Sriracha on everything I normally would put salt on.  Now I just need to make sure I don't add so much Sriracha so I get to the same level of salt...

So anyone got any suggestions for a portable Sriracha container?  Requirements are pocketable, preferably under 3 oz (so I can take it past the TSA), and allows me to squirt in pretty patterns.

On What???

So my wife says I have a problem.  Yesterday I said to her, "I need to eat something with Sriracha, I haven't eaten anything with it in like a week!"  To which she said, "Nik, you ate some on crackers yesterday."  Ok, maybe I have a problem, but I want to share that problem with you!

Short and spicy, my posts will be about the weird (or not so weird) stuff I put Sriracha on.  To achieve this goal I must figure out a good way to carry the nectar of the gods with me at all times.  I'm open to suggestions.

Today I had a great idea while drinking Piso Sours (the origin of many a great idea).  My eyes widened and I interrupted Jill saying something important about something exclaiming "I JUST HAD A BRILLIANT IDEA!"  Running to the fridge I grabbed carrots and hummus and proceeded to squirt a liberal amount of the red deliciousness into the hummus while stirring with the carrot.  The brilliance lies not only in the flavor, but in the fact that your stirring implement also acts as a flavor testing implement, much like Fun Dip.

Of course, upon tasting the nay sayer (Jill) ate half of my delicious concoction.  I promise a prettier picture next time, but until then, may the spice be with you!
